Pure Genius, or Pure Torture?

As you know from prior postings, we have been starting to work on potty training with Brooke. It is obvious to us that she knows when she is doing it, but motivating her to tell us before, not during or after has been the dilemma. I got this bright idea (or torturous idea, you decide) to fill a jar with Peanut Butter filled M & M's, put a label on it that says "Brooke's Potty Prizes," let her taste them and then told her that she could have one every single time she pottied on the big girl potty. Well, since I have shown her this jar we have gone to the bathroom 7 times (within less than an hour mind you) to 'try'. I know this is a start, and I know this sounds lazy but I didn't realize how much WORK it would be on my part!! ;o) She runs to the bathroom to try, then says "Okay Momma, M&M"......so it is obvious my evil plan is working. I will let you know if it continues this way!!

I also used the M&M trick. But I had to take my boys every 30 minutes. I literally set the timer on my oven and when it went off we would all yell potty time! I did this for a week and then moved back to an hour. After week two, they had to the tinkle part down. Now the other, I had to up the ante to 5 M&M's. That did the trick. And it was so worth it. When you first begin potty training, YOU are the one being trained not Brooke. Hang in there. It will happen I promise. I thought my boys would go to college in diapers until I did the 30 minute thing. You just have to set aside two weeks where thats all you do all day long is potty train.
